Shaping Future Generations of Critical Thinkers with Educational Robots

Description:
This workshop will explore the impact of social robots and autonomous agents in educational settings, focusing on their role in influencing students’ critical thinking and susceptibility to automation bias. It will delve into key findings from my research, including how factors like robot confidence levels and student familiarity with AI influence informational trust and alignment, by means of either conformity or persuasion. Additionally, the session will discuss strategies for designing educational technologies that foster independent critical thinking and reduce over-reliance on AI systems.

Participants will engage in collaborative activities, such as analysing real-world scenarios (video-recordings), conversational analysis, brainstorming adaptive educational strategies, and envisioning the next generation of educational robots tailored to diverse learning needs. This interactive format is aimed at encouraging discussion and innovative thinking among researchers and practitioners interested in the intersection of human-robot interaction and education.
