Title

The Artificial Public Servant

About the project

This project seeks to examine accountability in the context of automated decision-making within public administration, drawing from both philosophical and legal perspectives. The researchers aim to determine whether new regulations are necessary to govern accountability for autonomous systems or if existing frameworks should be adapted. This will involve a detailed analysis of how accountability currently operates under Swedish law, alongside an exploration of moral accountability and agency through philosophical inquiry.

The focus of the project will be twofold: first, on the legal structures that define accountability in Sweden, and second, on the philosophical aspects of moral responsibility and agency. By integrating these perspectives, the researchers intend to propose specific updates to accountability frameworks and introduce new forms of accountability that can be applied both generally and within the specific context of Swedish law.

In addition to the legal and philosophical analysis, the project is expected to offer a deeper understanding of the ethical, legal, and societal challenges associated with the introduction of AI systems in public administration. The findings will contribute to shaping the future approach to managing accountability in an increasingly automated world.
