To foster collaborative research at the intersection of data-driven life sciences, social sciences, and the humanities, three new initiation projects between WASP-HS and DDLS have been approved.

The projects are a part of the call “Research Initiation Grants for Data-Driven Life Sciences and Society,” (open from June 19 to November 4, 2024) and will focus on the human and social challenges of data-driven life science strategies.

Aiming for significant scientific, industrial, and societal impact, the projects will contribute to a deeper understanding of AI, autonomous systems, and data-driven methodologies, examining their effects and consequences in life sciences, medicine, and society.

Approved Projects

The three following projects have been approved and will run for up to two years.

When N equals 1: Ethics and epistemology of personalization and group belongings in data-driven prediction medicine
Stefan Larsson, Lund University (WASP-HS) and Markus Lingman, Halmstad University (DDLS)

Explainable and Just AI in Data-Driven Disease Surveillance
Atiye Sadat Hashemi, Lund University (DDLS) and Yana Litins’ka, Lund University (WASP-HS)

AI-powered clinical psychology: Personalized and Standardized Assessment and Pharmacological Treatment
Sverker Sikström, Lund University (WASP-HS) and Axel Carl Carlsson, Karolinska Institutet (DDLS)

More About DDLS

Data-driven life science (DDLS) uses data, computational methods and artificial intelligence to study biological systems and processes at all levels, from molecular structures and cellular processes to human health and global ecosystems. The SciLifeLab and Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) aims to recruit and train the next generation of data-driven life scientists and to create globally leading computational and data science capabilities in Sweden.
