WASP-HS announces an open call for postdoctoral scholarships on AI, humanity, and society at MIT in collaboration with SERC. These scholarships enable promising researchers who have recently obtained their doctorates at a Swedish university to spend one to two years at MIT. WASP-HS has opened its 2024 call for postdoctoral scholarships, offering a unique opportunity for promising early-career researchers from Swedish universities to conduct research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
The scholarship program, which begins in fall 2025, enables researchers who have recently completed their doctorates at a Swedish institution to spend one to two years at MIT. Recipients will be affiliated with SERC and a relevant host department at MIT. The program is designed to support postdoctoral fellows in developing into independent investigators while experiencing new research environments and expanding their international networks. Upon returning to Sweden, postdoctoral fellows will also be eligible for repatriation support.
Eligibility and Application Criteria
The program welcomes scholars from all disciplines. Applicants should propose research projects that either:
- uses a social science and/or humanities approach to investigate questions about the consequences of AI and/or autonomous systems for society and/or humanity, or
- investigates how social science and/or humanities knowledge contributes to the development of AI and autonomous systems.
Applicants must have received their doctoral degree from a Swedish university within two years of the start date, maintain a connection with a Swedish university or non-profit research organization, and must not have previously been employed by or held a scholarship at MIT.

This scholarship is developed in collaboration with MIT’s Social and Ethical Responsibilities of Computing (SERC) that facilitates the development of responsible “habits of mind and action” for those who create and deploy computing technologies and fosters the creation of technologies in the public interest.
