Interdisciplinary Research to Understand AI Impact

Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming an increasingly integral part of our daily lives and the society we live in. How do these technologies affect our way of life? What opportunities and challenges arise as we integrate more AI technologies? The research conducted within WASP-HS explores thes opportunities and challenges, and the program aims to examine AI from a humanities and social science perspective. Some examples of research areas include the impact of AI on law, economics, education, politics, arts and culture, human behavior, healthcare and more. See all research projects for more examples.

With such a wide range of perspectives on the impact of AI on humanity and society, WASP-HS forms a highly interdisciplinary research community. The research community consists of over 200 researchers involved in over 54 research projects and are located at 15 universities and research institutes across Sweden.

To enable cutting edge research, expertise, and competence building three program instruments are dedicated to funding researchers and research.

Research Program

WASP-HS enables cutting edge research, expertise, and competence building to foster interdisciplinary knowledge about how AI and autonomous systems impacts humanity and society. The research program funds research projects located at universities and research institutes all across Sweden and is forming a multidisciplinary network. Over 50 research project have, at this point, been directly funded by WASP-HS.

Graduate School

The WASP-HS Graduate School addresses the challenges and consequences of the imminent technology shift caused by the introduction of autonomous systems and AI in society. The goal is to train PhD students from multiple fields to allow them to be part of an internationally competitive community with training in philosophy, social science, policy research, organisational science, psychology, and other humanities and social science disciplines, together with a sound knowledge of core AI issues.

Capacity Building and Recruitment

WASP-HS develops expertise, builds knowledge and skills in the humanities and social sciences across Sweden through the recruitment of 11 Assistant Professors and one affiliated, six Guest Professors and Postdocs across Sweden and internationally.
