WASP-HS Researcher Leads Technofascism Course at MIT

Erik Sandelin, WASP-HS postdoctoral researcher, teaches about the overlap between fascism and computer technology, such as AI, at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Fascism is the political ideology that promotes a powerful authoritarian government, extreme nationalism, and the subordination of individual freedoms to the interests of the nation. Many believe this is a thing of the past but a new form, technofascism, is increasingly impacting society today.

The term technofascism describes the collusion of large technology firms, billionaire oligarchs, and tech culture with authoritarian and anti-democratic political agendas. Together with colleagues, WASP-HS postdoctoral researcher Erik Sandelin is leading the ongoing online course “Technofascism, Feminism and Democracy.”

“We are hosting one lecture per month on topics such as Fascism 101, Tech Oligarchy, Microfascism, and AI & Eugenics,” says Erik Sandelin.

The course is hosted by MIT and available for all interested.
