Arrangement

Students are responsible for arranging all aspects of the stay, including contacting the host institution, planning the visit, and securing accommodation. Within three months after returning, students must submit a report describing the scientific outcomes of the visit and other relevant experiences.

Duration

A typical visit lasts two to six months.
WASP‑HS may allow:

  • Multiple shorter trips that together serve a single research goal
  • Consecutive stays at the same institution due to personal or regulatory reasons

Such cases must be clearly motivated in the application.
Please note: Doctoral students may only spend a semester abroad while employed at their home university.

Costs

Approved applicants may receive reimbursement for:

  • Travel costs
  • (Student) accommodation
  • Subsistence during the stay

Funding limits and conditions:

  • Up to 120 000 SEK in direct costs
  • Up to 15% indirect costs
  • Up to 3.5% premises costs

Costs for “PhD Semester Abroad” projects follow the same reporting and reimbursement procedures as other WASP‑HS funded projects. Travel costs should be reimbursed to the student by their home university, which then requests funding from WASP‑HS.

Note: In 2026, this funding is also open to affiliated PhD students.
