AI, Power, and Politics
AI technologies, such as deepfakes, automated decision‑making systems, and algorithmic personalization, are reshaping the political landscape. How does AI influence how information spreads, how political messages are crafted, and how governance is conducted? How can we make sure that fundamental democratic values such as truth, transparency, accountability, and inclusivity are kept in the new landscape? These challenges lie at the center of the research conducted within the WASP‑HS environment AI, Power, and Politics.
Vision
The vision of the research environment is to contribute to a future where AI-driven technologies do not undermine democratic institutions but rather strengthen democratic processes. The researchers strive to generate interdisciplinary knowledge about how AI mediates power relations and transforms political engagement in ways that enable societies to benefit from AI technologies’ potential.
Mission
The mission of WASP-HS research environment AI, Power, and Politics is to:
- Advance empirically grounded and theoretically informed research on AI, power, and politics.
- Foster interdisciplinarity and build research capacity through PhD students, postdocs, and guest professors.
- Drive theoretical and methodological innovation.
- Examine how AI shapes information ecosystems, including opinion dynamics, agenda‑setting, and mis/disinformation.
- Analyse AI’s impact on democratic governance, including transparency, accountability, legitimacy, and citizen engagement.
- Investigate how AI reshapes global and national power relations between state and non‑state actors.
