Guest Professors Stage 2 – For Invited Universities

The Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program on Humanities and Society (WASP-HS) aims to realize excellent research and develop competence on the consequences and challenges of artificial intelligence and autonomous systems for humanities and society. One of WASP-HS instruments is recruitment of Guest Professors. Through the recruitment of six Guest Professors WASP-HS aims to establish strong international relations and thereby ensuring continued excellent research at the host universities on a specific topic. The Guest Professor should strengthen the vision of WASP-HS of excellent multidisciplinary research with high relevance both nationally and internationally. During the evaluation process particular importance will be placed on the scientific excellence and international profile of the candidate, the benefits for the host university and the candidate’s contribution to WASP-HS. 


Conditions 

  • Length: 5 years (Latest start date: September 2023) 
  • Funding by WASP-HS and co-funding conditions: 
  • Guest professor: 20% fte (negotiable) 
  • Hosting team: max 50%fte 
  • 1 PhD student (co-supervised by the guest professor and a researchers at the hosting university) 
  • A maximum of 8.5 MSEK can be requested from WASP-HS (including all positions and overheads) 
  • Co-funding by hosting university: 1 PhD student or postdoc  (co-supervised by the guest professor and a researcher at the hosting university) 
  • Eligible direct project costs are salary costs, a maximum payroll overhead (LKP) of 50% on salary costs, and operating costs. Payroll overhead exceeding 50% of salary costs are to be covered by the hosting university.  
  • Indirect costs are calculated as a maximum of 15% of eligible direct cost. Indirect costs that exceed 15% of eligible direct cost are covered by the hosting university.  
  • Premises costs are calculated as a maximum of 3,5% of direct eligible costs. Premises costs that exceed 3,5% of direct eligible costs are covered by the hosting university.  

Evaluation Criteria 

  • Scientific excellence and international profile of candidate 
  • Multi- inter- and/or transdisciplinary potential of the proposed research topic 
  • Short- and long-term benefits for the research environment at host university 
  • Contribution to WASP-HS plans, vision, and legacy 

Time-Line

  • 29 April: Submission opens on WASP-HS website
  • April-May: Individual information meetings with the universities
  • 21 June: Submission deadline
  • July-September: Evaluation by members of WASP-HS Scientific Evaluation Committee
  • 15 September: WASP-HS Board decision
  • 30 September: Communication of results

Rights and Obligations 

  • Reporting of publications 
    • All publications should include acknowledgement to WASP-HS: 
      “This work was partially supported by the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program – Humanities and Society (WASP-HS) funded by the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation” 
    • All publications must be reported to WASP-HS (either through DiVA or similar system) 
  • WASP-HS graduate school 
    • PhD students are admitted to the WASP-HS graduate school and must participate in all associated courses and activities as part of the conditions of the program WASP-HS 
  • WASP-HS activities 
    • All Researchers financed by WASP-HS are expected, on invitation, to participate in WASP-HS meetings, contribute to the graduate school activities, and report any research results and publications of which they are responsible
