Virginia Dignum, Program Director of WASP-HS, joins Global Partnership on AI as member of the Working Group on Responsible AI.
Virginia Dignum joined one of the four Global Partnership’s Working Groups on Responsible AI alongside 31 experts from over 15 countries. The Working Group is co-chaired by Yoshua Bengio and Raja Chatila. Virginia Dignum is also professor at Umeå University, Sweden, and co-founder of ALLAI, an independent organization dedicated to drive and foster Responsible AI, that was first to tell the story on Virginia Dignum´s membership.

GPAI is multiparty and seeks to guide responsible development and use of AI in a spirit of respect for human rights, inclusion, diversity, innovation and economic growth. In order to achieve this goal, member countries will set themselves to building bridges between theory and practice, and lend their support to cutting-edge research activities and practical implementation activities connected with AI priorities.
The GPAI is grounded in human rights, inclusion, diversity, innovation and economic growth. It will connect theory and practice on AI by supporting research and applied projects, pilots, and experimentation on AI-related priorities.
Founding members include Australia, Canada, the European Union, Germany, India, France, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Slovenia, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
The GPAI will be supported by a secretariat, hosted by the OECD in Paris, along with two Centres of Expertise, one in Montreal and the other in Paris.
Leading experts from industry, civil society, governments and academia will take part in working groups. They will focus on four key themes:
- responsible AI
- data governance
- the future of work
- innovation and commercialisation
The Working Group’s mission: “foster and contribute to the responsible development, use and governance of human-centred AI systems, in congruence with the UN Sustainable Development Goals”.
